The abandoned track through Wallace is now a paved bike trail, running clear from Plummer to Mullan. UP approached Wallace from the west, NP approached from the east, with a slight overlap. UP operated the Wallace-Mullan segment of the ex-NP after BN abandoned the line over Lookout Pass. Jay had a photo and story published in Railfan & Railroad of UP's last revenue trip into that area. You can drive and/or bike most of the NP grade over Lookout Pass between Mullan and Saltese, except that the famous S-curve trestle on the west slope is long gone. Contrary to a recent book on BNSF and its predecessors, NP's Coeur d'Alene Branch (later called the Wallace Branch) over Lookout Pass did NOT run to Coeur d'Alene, unless you count the rail and riverboat connections it made to the west.
