It’s a nice stunt by Stadler, a company that knows how to make money where there is money to be made. Their own people say the product is inferior to BEMUs but they still sell them to agencies pining for a hydrogen future. If you insist on buying junk, Stadler will sell it to you.

Meanwhile in Europe, where hydrogen trains already have a few years of experimentation on the books, operators are now shying away from H2 in favor of batteries. Alstom tried in Germany, and the H2 pilot was a resounding failure.

When procurements are technology-neutral (which they aren’t here in California) hydrogen loses every time. Too bad we’ll have to f@@@ around at great taxpayer expense to find out.
