2 to 6 hours late into Salinas for #11 was a common almost daily occurrence. We used to have all sorts of Amtrak px visitors to the Steinbeck Center (2 blocks from the station) who were told by the station agent to while away their time there until the train finally arrived. The agent used to post the arrival sign with "give or take an hour more or less". It was pathetic.
However, last fall, between the economic downturn and some serious saber rattling by Amtrak threatening lawsuits, things here on the UP suddenly shaped up to the point where the #11 is almost consistently EARLY into Salinas. But 4 years ago the cartooon was, unfortunately, pretty right on.
