Big Fat Hairy Deal!
On its current padded to death schedule, 89% would only be impressive if it were a stagecoach!
And the CZ schedule is even slower. Last January, Heading East, we waited for the schedule to catch us a whole hour at Sparks, 40 minutes at Winnie, sat west of Carlin who knows how long (nothin passed us), another hour at Elko, and still got into Salt Lake City an hour and a half early - sat at grant tower for most of it before being allowed into the platform a quarter mile away. Hell, at least if we had been on a stagecoach, we'd a had a shotgun - could'a shot our way in! BTW, we only met 3 freights all the way from Sacto to SLC. It wasn't any different coming back west, either.
Wasn't there a song in the sixties about "Where have all the freight trains gone? Long time a passing" - or was that flowers or something.
