Here's a photo I took on February 22, 1981, FORTY-TWO YEARS AGO, of Amtrak's train 35, the westbound DESERT WIND, blasting through Claremont, CA on what was then the Santa Fe's Second District.
It looks like the train has a baggage car, a 10-6 sleeper, an Amfleet cafe car, an ex-ATSF transition car and two Superliner coaches. Maybe one of the Superliner cars is a sleeper and the last two cars came off train 5, the SAN FRANCISCO ZEPHYR, at Odgen, UT. Perhaps someone here can offer some info on what the train make-up was in early 1981.
This line is now Metrolink's San Gabriel Subdivision and the area around the Claremont station has changed considerably. It's nice to see that the station has survived, which was not the case for so many other stations along this line. It has been repurposed as an art museum.
