Republican presidents have tried to kill Amtrak, Republican Senators (Trent Lott, Kay Bailey Hutchinson) have often been its biggest supporters. Democratic administrations have strangled or neglected it.

Face it, Amtrak has not fared well at the hands of EITHER party. It is simply factually untrue to portray either party as a supporter or saviour. Democrats give better lip service overall, but their track record is no better.
