It is with a high degree of sadness that I report the passing of 67-year-old retired railroader and railfan Glen S. Icanberry of Redlands, CA, after a long illness.
After graduating from Cal State Fresno, Glen was hired by Santa Fe and worked as a clerk, train order operator and dispatcher on the Valley Division at Calwa and Fresno. He later worked as a communications coordinator at the Santa Fe dispatching center on Carnegie Lane in San Bernardino and, later still, at the Amtrak reservations bureau in Riverside, CA.
Glen co-wrote the book "Valley Division Vignettes", showcasing the history and operations of the Santa Fe's Valley Division. Glen was involved with the group that operates the ATSF 3751 steam locomotive and worked on the details of operating several excursions with that locomotive. He was also instrumental in getting the railroad museum at the San Bernardino train station up and running. As an accomplished photographer and artist, Glen created an extensive 35mm slide collection of railroading in the West and Midwest and his artwork appears on promotional hats, jackets and coffee mugs for the Santa Fe's divisions in California. He produced and presented a presentation at Winterail covering the Santa Fe's Second, Third and Redlands Districts ("The Kite Route") and in 2022 was given special recognition by Vic Neves for having attended every Winterail presentation since its inception.
Glen is preceded in death by his parents and younger brother. He will be missed by his friends in the railfan and railroad community and the members of his church.
Rest in peace, Glen. Tie your train down and take the power to the house.
