This is extremely sad news to me. I had spent some time with him when he worked in the AT&SF CQS (Customer Quality and Support) Office at San Bernardino right before they closed it and moved the work to Topeka. I then saw him in person again when Amtrak hired him for the Western Reservation Sales Office in Riverside, that I might add is also now closed. The very last time was at the Southern California Railway Museum in Perris, right before I left to go work and live in New Orleans, and that was 26 and a half years ago. I did not know he was having health issues, and if I did, I would have for sure made it a point to get in contact with him. He was good friends with former SP Towerman and later, AT&SF Telegrapher/Towerman/Clerk, Bill Martin, who was working at Burbank Jct. Tower during the big derailment there in 1965, that destroyed the pipe-rod thrown switches and stunk up the area for a long time with smells from the derailed Perishable loads, who also died within the last year.
Glen, thanks for your time and now watch over all of us safe, with switches lined and green signals, (Santa Fe) all the way!
Thanks DBA for sharing this sad, devastating news.
