I was on a ride along/field trip with several local City Councilmembers and local transit staff this morning, which was a microcosm of everything wrong, as I was the first on the bus, and when I tapped the TAP card staff had given me, it showed it was a bad card... The same thing happened coming back, but fortunately, the head of our transit operations told them to let me ride anyhow.
And, of course, I could not use my senior TAP pass to just buy of senior day pass, either. Because our system is not programmed sell the most popular interoperable senior day passes. TAP was designed to be an interoperable multisystem/bus line fare media, unfortunately, it's not being used that way.
We then proceeded to blow off a passenger at a stop who needed to have the bike rack lowered. And the mucky mucks turned toward those of us on the bus missed it, while all of the rest of us looking out the windows saw it, and the guys pissed off reaction.
We are not ready at all for the 2028 Olympics, as far as our local transit and operations planning is concerned, if the screw ups folks saw on this morning's field trip are any indication.
Hopefully, according to our local staff, we'll get an update to the local agency FTA NTD inputs for Southern California, that will have more up to date data for 2023 ridership (which, according to staff, will look a little better for our own local transit operations). Right now, the 2022 ridership and performance numbers still look pretty bad for most local operators, as well as for MTA.
