I do love the politically correct use of rail in all of the Caltrans press releases about funding.
For some perspective from this press release, in San Diego County it will be 180 million dollars for freeway improvements and maintenance. And it will be 4.8 million dollars for pedestrian improvements (and the money to plan it???), and message signs on SD Transit.
As to planning for this transit pedestrian improvement at the San Diego Station, that have already been funded, in the same package as the planning funds for identifying and justifying them for the tradeoffs in costs and benefits?????
How can this process get so bad, that you ask for, and are given the funding, before you have a plan or know what the benefits are, and what you might "need" to do to achieve them, and what it would "cost", before requesting and being given a budget of taxpayer's money to do them with?
It's an interesting way to "pre-fund" for our "yet to be planned" transportation "needs"...
