No, it wouldn't be as the Desert Wind would use the same tracks from Smelter to SLC, same as the current California Zephyr does. Also, there are 2 Station Tracks for Amtrak at Salt Lake City and this was done intentionally if the Desert Wind and/or the Pioneer ever came back. There was a big push around 2009 to bring the Pioneer back and UP was all for it, provided they got some new sidings and improvements, but Amtrak Management at the time did not want to re-instate the Pioneer, but yet, they insisted upon have 2 station tracks at Salt Lake City when they moved to the current Station from the DRGW station.
