When we put it in context, it's hard to escape the realization that we, as railfan photographers, walk in some mighty large footsteps.
Railpictures, had it existed in their day, may have even turned down photos from some of our greats -- Otto Perry, Dick Steinheimer, even Lucius Beebe.
When we photograph a railroad scene, trains or not, imperfect or not, we're traveling the right-of-way they cleared for us. Our shot of today with the crooked horizon and the train in shadow may be the celebrated classic railroad photo of tomorrow.
