This is certainly good news. Lets hope the money trail to complete this project holds together and the economy improves. What THA needs is a good inovative entrepreneur who has an intense interest in both railroading and local history. The founders of THA 35 years ago are mostly gone. The state lost interest in supporting their efforts 20 years ago, largely due to politics, environmentalists and the constant termoil of the declining timber industry. Timber has always supported the museum efforts but like any sinking ship had other distractions. And of course, the railroad couldn't have cared less until it was run by anybody but SP. Now that there is nothing left it seems more are stepping up to the plate to try to accomplish something. THA has done amazing things of late.......moved all the locos to the old Samoa roundhouse, brought the A&MR 44 tonner back from Louisiana and now starting the work on PL #37.

In 1938, Bob Gray rode the last steam train to Virginia City and 35 years later returned to revive the V&T into one of the more successful tourist railroads in the country. Lets Hope some old head from the 1950's or 60's does the same for THA. It amazes me a place like Humboldt County that had so much historic fabric and integrity up through the 1960's, largely because of its single industry economy and isolation, has lost so much, and yet it's so difficult to get any momentum to preserve the vast amount still remaining.
