Thank you for your comments. In retrospect, I began to remember several occasions over the last dozen years or so where craft differentiation or training for that matter, would have had no effect. Stupid is as stupid does. And, I'll admit- I've put more than one car on the ground and ran through my share of switches. You know, about five years ago we took #4 out of San Berdoo without a working shower in our expensive bedroom. At Albuquerque, four 'scab' carman came to respond to the problem. This was a location previously protected by the BRCF, and I was immediately dissapointed when I figured out these guys were not Amtrak employes.

However, in the brief time we were there for servicing, these guys came together and found (without any diagrams, and with much effort) the hot water isolation valve that the Amtrak carman (!) left closed in LA. After I thanked them for their efforts and started BSing, their leadman then showed me the repair log from the electrical locker showing that the car was serviced in LA by Amtrak for shower valve replacement. I was left to think about all this on my way to Kansas City. It's really about diligence and wherewithall.

And we're not going to talk about the time I kicked seven loads into the drill track that had three empties and no handbrakes.
