It is perfectly permissible to move certain cars with certain defects under the proper operating conditions, to a point where repairs can be properly done. This does not appear to have been a serious enough problem that they could not be moved for repair to a suitable location. A ten car consist on a ten mile per hour track would not even need the air brakes cut in, as the engine independent brakes can easily control things in that condition. You haven't lived unitil you've run a 140 car "hospital" train of damage or defective equipment at a speed not over 25 mph. from Indio to West Colton and LA for repairs The usual Novato "know-nothings" will see this as another part of the evil train "conspiracy", none the less.
Ferroequinology was a phrase someone I knew came up with to describe a specialization in the "iron horse". Hence, a Ferroequinologist is a railroader. I think my candidate for Troll Hunters contest for someone with an obsessive/compulsive fear of evil choo choo trains is a Ferroequinephobic.
