There was an interesting news synopsis on the Yahoo home page today relative to mass transport not
always being the most "green" alternative. The point it addressed was exactly Eugene's point in
that a partially full train is not really very green or efficient. You'd wonder if a combination
of the two modes wouldn't make more sense ie a train for heavy AM and PM travel and something like
a DMU for off peak hours. The DMU thing is reminding me of the bus company in Roswell who has the
most advance transit bus known to man, builds a couple prototypes, takes a big deposit and goes
into Chapter 7, like 5 times now. The last order debacle was for something like 250 pieces for New
Jersey Transit where they delivered maybe 2 and went belly up. One hopes that the DMU thing won't
go to a similar end.
