There are compliant FRA designs, or designs that could be upgraded to FRA compliant for DMU, by some foreign manufacturers. These are also compliant with locomotive hauled combinations, which will give SMART the flexibility it will need in the future. There are a number of parties interested in acquiriring the technologies from the current wave of supplier bankruptcies, the genset technologgy and FRA compliant sets (with all of that ARRA money for the states...) seem to have interested some buyers.
