I had one particular photo in mind for the 4449 special, and that was just west of Maryhill, with Mt Hood in the background. Instead of running with the pack, I got a shot near Hood River, then staked out my location at Maryhill to be sure I got there in plenty of time.
I'd railfanned there a few times before, but never got an Eastbound with the mountain in the photo. Luckily for me, the weather cooperated and we had a beautiful, if a bit hazy, day.
The resulting photo came out pretty well I think. The entire train is visible, passing a lush green orchard, which contrasts quite nicely with the orange of the loco, and the mountain is plainly visible. Mission accomplished.
