OXNARD, Calif. -- Two people are hospitalized after a Metrolink train struck a car that was left disabled on the tracks by a traffic collision in Oxnard.

The train hit the vehicle shortly after 5:30 a.m. Thursday near 5th Street and Rice Avenue.

Fire Battalion Chief Mike O'Malia says firefighters were working to free an injured man in a car after a two-vehicle crash when the train struck one the vehicles left partially on the tracks. Another person was injured in the second vehicle.

The train stopped and remained at the scene more than an hour while investigators examined the wreckage. No one on the train was hurt.

Ambulances took the injured to a nearby hospital. The extent of injuries wasn't immediately clear.
