The Black Hills and neighboring Badlands are indeed some of the finest country in the USA. Most city folks on either coast envision the Dakotas as flat Midwest farmland (the same way many confuse Idaho with Iowa), which is probably good since these scenic gems would be suffering even more development if more people with money knew the truth. Seeing "Dances With Wolves" (and hearing its terrific musical score)on the big screen at some cineplex in New Jersey was one of many motivators that got me moving back to the Northwest 13 years ago. Lingered just long enough in western South Dakota during the drive to Idaho that I still have a big desire to get back over there some summer. Costner made many friends there during production of his film, and immediately after its release, but the land grabs and other deals for his long-talked-about railroad and resort have cost him much of his local following. The Black Hills Central looks like all the railroad anyone really needs to make a vacation to that area complete.
