Yesterday, around 10:00 am while putting power away at Barstow, we waited as an Amtrak special with an amfleet car and three other cars; a CZ dome, the Overland Trail (??) and the ex-VIA business car took a ballon ride and then departed westbound out of the West D Yard entry.

Later, an Amtrak conductor and other crew member had the misfortune of lodging at the Sleazy 8 hotel along with the rest of us peasants. If they were the crew from the inbound, I wonder if the special got dogcaught? I magine this train originated in the LA area, so a round trip to the "Jewel of the Desert" should be able to be done under the hours of service...?
