The trip was initially announced by the LA Rail Group, Private Car Owners.
Pacific Railroad Society also co-sponsored the trip.

It was announced on Trainorders and an ad was run in Trains Magazine.

It may be a while before a trip like this could be run again.

It was fortunate that BNSF and Union Pacific were in a slack period.
Otherwise they might not have authorized the trip with AMTRAK.
