Carol's note of caution is well taken. Just because the funds for the initial purchase are from Washington it is not necessarily a good buy.
I recall many of the bridges are in bad shape. UP or any operator is not going to replace those bridges for free. Is getting involved in a railroad a good use of county resources?
The freight potential for this line is declining. Davenport cement keeps starting and stopping production.
If the county has a plan for passenger rail or a trail that is one thing.
This is not a growing freight line.
