It is doubtful that Mr. Arnold in his heart of hearts is any more pro-bus than he is pro-rail. I suspect that he is simply anti-transit and pro-freeway. It is possible to be pro-bus and pro-rail at the same time. SMART is so conceptually challenged that the bus alternative has to be considered. SMART's doodlebug technology cannot be extended to Marin City much less the City. This is a real shortcoming as SF to Santa Rosa is the only route that has the passenger potential to justify rail. Electric light rail can replace most of the Northbay end of the #80 trunk route and at least in the interim an across-the-platfrom transfer at Marin City from light rail to a bus into the City could be reasonably seamless.
