With regards to the current state of air travel, I have to agree with badge # 714. Here in the PNW, it is now faster to drive between Seattle & Portland, and as far South as Eugene, than it is to fly; what with the strip searches & passengers trying to cram steamer trunks into the overhead bins. In California, long gone are the days of walking up to the PSA counter & paying cash for a LAX - SFO sameday roundtrip, just 30 minutes before takeoff.
Of course any intrastate Amtrak service would have to be funded, at least partially, by the state through 403-b provisions. With the state's current money woes, any such funding is many years off.
