Probably depends upon one's point of view. Enrolling in these courses doesn't guarantee a job with UP, BNSF or Amtrak upon completion. They all have their own training programs that new hires must take (and, they pay you during training), so I really don't see the point.

Rather than spending all that money, I think a better choice would be to volunteer at any of the railroad museums that have hands-on operating programs. Then submit an application with a real railroad if that's your desire. Or just buy an HO train set and watch it go 'round and 'round.
