States owning trackage in other states

If memory serves, there are at least two cases of a state owning railroad property outside of its borders. When the Illinois Central Gulf wanted to part with the Madison District (between Freeport, IL, and Madison, WI) circa 1981, the state of Wisconsin acquired the line which it in turn leased to various shortline operators (Chicago, Madison & Northern, Wisconsin & Calumet, and Wisconsin & Southern). The point: Wisconsin owned a short section of railroad in Illinois. This allowed the whole branch to be saved and gave the shortline operator access to ICG's Wallace Yard at Freeport for interchange.
South Dakota acquired a large network of Milwaukee Road branchlines and secondary mainlines when that carrier started pulling out of the state in 1980. A few miles of this state-owned trackage ran in Iowa (on the line between Sioux Falls, SD, and Sioux City, IA), if I remember correctly.
Does anyone know of additional cases like this?
