I was too young to be looking much at the power, but one run on the Suntan in the late 1950's was on Harrimans (at any rate, something with seats that didn't recline) with some diesels on it - probably geeps. Loooong ride via Watsonville, and the sun never came out so tans were more like fogburns ... spent a lot of time inside at the Boardwalk not on the beach. Not sure if it was that trip or one of the later family driving trips where we went swimming at the fairly grungy Plunge where the indoor mini golf appeared later.
