The Desert...

One of my favorite places to railfan and take photos would have to be the BNSF Transcon. Specifically, the BNSF's Needles Subdivision, not only for the scenery, but also the amount of traffic. I've heard many people say that the Transcon is over shot or over rated, but I for one beg to differ. There is something about seeing a train in the distance and watching it approach you that is, well, energizing! At many places in the desert you can watch trains as they approach from miles away, the anticipation of the train, setting up your shot and waiting to release the shutter is what makes it fun for me. I thought I would share a few shots that I took on my first real photo safari to the BNSF Transcon in Southern California.

BNSF 7653 West at Siberia

BNSF 7751 West at Ludlow

BNSF 5386 East in at Nebo

UP 3813 East passes the helper set of a westbound BNSF manifest

What is your favotire subdivision to railfan?

I hope you enjoy the photos,
