Can only speculate here, but UP did run pretty long trains on #457-458 in the late 40's early 50's. My dad and I used to go down to Union Station reasonably often and we never saw, say, one of UP's FEF class on the train - most always a Challenger. Perhaps needed the extra horsepower for the Napavine Hill grade?
