I can't really claim a good memory here...mine doesn't even begin until several years later, and I'd never heard of McCloud River until 1984...

That aside, the temporary lettering applied to the #38 did not fall off all at once. I've seen a number of photos from the January/February 1972 time period of the #38 wearing "McCloue River" lettering.

Speaking of movies filmed around McCloud, "Baby Blue Marine" also used the town as a set. Anybody remember if the railroad showed up at all in that film?
