This is the alternate main line of the NP, which left the Tacoma yard, crossed the drawbridge, and went up South Tacoma Hill and on to the Prairie Line. When there were slides along Puget Sound, and the Point line was out of service, the trains of all 3 roads used this route. The GN used it for all trains up to about WWII. Trains such as NP passenger #422, to Grays Harbor, used this line. They headed down the ramp, into the station, then backed up and out onto the bridge, then headed up the hill! Quite a few freight locals used this route as well. Once Boeing started making bit wing assemblies and shipping them through here, they were too tall to fit under the trestle on the main, so were routed over the bridge. In about 1971, someone goofed, and that was the end of the bridge's use!
Under the trestle, curving off to the left, is the UP's track, which also crossed a drawbridge, and went into the UP yard. Later, this was the location of UP junction, which replaced the station at McCarver St.
