Newark, NJ., Brick Church Station platform, in 1982. Enroute from Newark Airport to Scranton, PA., I begged my dad to stop here so I could photograph the DL & W Electric MU's. My dad was concerned we were going to be mugged / stabbed / killed / eaten by the natives. A few quick photos and we were on our way. The relatives in Scranton awarded us " Survivor Awards ", ( actually boilermakers ) for our bravery. Learned later this was the worst part of a very bad city.
Runnerup: Silverton, CO. In 1992 I planned a trip on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge, via Phoenix to add my sister & brother - in - law. Wanting " The Whole Experience ", I booked us into the hotel in Silverton for the night. Bad idea !!! After the last train left, everything in town closed, and we were basically alone in an old west ghost town on a moonless night. Very creepy, made more so by the various creaks & sounds coming from within the walls of the hotel. I did note the floors leaned more than those in my grandma's house in Scranton.
