Why not instead of printing it out, do what some folks are doing and post it online, like a PDF. I'm pretty sure that you can still make sales with it being posted and also that the TT stays on the internet without much loss...just my two cents.
You miss the point. There is a substantial amount of work involved in gathering the information that appears in a timetable. It all must be accurate and up to date. To keep timetables current, new data must be obtained, sorted, filed and placed into the book. There is plenty of work to do just to publish a California edition.
If you're running the Altamont Press timetable business and investing hours upon hours in gathering timetable data for a not-so-great return, just how long can one keep that up?
Selling the timetables to a small market is one problem. Getting good information from railfans, many who only follow rumors, is another problem. Reliable and dependable people are needed to assist in the enterprise. It's a tough business to make a "go" at.
