OPRRMS actually San Bernardino to San Diego, via Railroad Canyon and the Temecula Valley. That is once Governor Waterman brought the posse down, and told Wyatt Earp"s brother("town marshall" of Colton for the SP)to get out of the way and let them put in the frog to cross the SP at Colton-now Colton Crossing-soon (hopefully) to be a flyover.

Traces of the mainline area are still to be seen in Downtown Temecula across the wash and up on the hill. Some have proposed this as a far easier route, rebuilt to modern standards and with tunneling to avoid the Canyon (then through the southern edge of Camp Pendleton)to get the IE HSR line into San Diego, than the much more difficult I-15 alignment.

With new management at CHSRA maybe we'll see if this possibly more affordable alternative makes more sense?
