Set out a car one night on the lead to make a quick setout. Had done that countless times before. I was walking back up to the switch while the engine shoved the setout car back and heard a horrible screech and crunch. I looked back to see sparks fly as that car rolled out and sideswiped my switch engine, scaring the hell out of the hogger.
How did it happen? I got complacent. I didn't tie a handbrake on the car I set out on the lead and it bled off and rolled out. Cars in Oakland yard will do that at night with the rolling in/out of the tides in the bay believe it or not. We called them "ghost cars". I had known this and still had made the concious decision not to tie a hand brake on that car since "we'd only be a quick minute".
All my fault.
