If you don't want to hang around Longview and Kelso, you can also:

Head up I-5 to Chehalis, where the Lewis County Historical Museum (the old NP passenger depot) has a railfan platform, and the CCRA yard at the south end of town has several old steamers and diesels.

Go a few miles further to Centralia, where you can catch bits and pieces of Puget Sound & Pacific's diverse locomotive roster at Blakeslee Junction.

Head south to Vancouver, where the Amtrak depot is right in the middle of a busy wye and you can catch Amtrak, BNSF, Portland & Western, and UP.
