Sheesh! Typical of the Idaho Statesman, they ignore the fact that Lewiston Idaho has had an intermodal port for the last 35 years.
Other than that, just the typical Progressivist BS about how America is on the verge of a recovery with the "new economy". Not with federal debt reaching 100% of GDP it ain't.
There's also the issue of UP guarantees that it will handle any intermodal consists handed to it in Nampa by BVRR. The question is obviously begged - If there was a worthwhile market for an intermodal facility in the Boise Valley, wouldn't UP already be doing it? With the perpetual bottleneck of the Blue Mountains it's hard to see UP committing to any reliable long term handling of Boise-based intermodal consists.
Boise will find out what Lewiston learned a decade ago - neither UP nor BNSF is interested in the short haul to the coast.
