New Mexico by Rail...Any Suggestions

I am planning to ride the Southwest Chief to Albuqurque to visit RailRunner and the Santa Fe Southern. I would like to take the Sunset Limited one way and I want to know:

Is there any way to get from Deming or Lordsburg to the RailRunner cities without the all-day Greyhound trip with a transfer and:

Does the current Sunset schedule go through saguaro country by daylight?
