The advice here about listening to your "elders" is sound, in all fields. Whether you have a CDL, certificate from a rail academy, two year college or a four year college degree, when you step out of the school into your first (or even second job), all you bring with you is a piece of paper that says you met certain criteria. You have NO useful experience.
On the other hand, watch out for your "elders"; people with years under their belt are prone to developing bad habits and attitudes.
I've seen both sides "of the fence" over the years, it ain't pretty, I wonder sometimes how companies survive. Young'uns with "I know it all" attitudes, to old-times who are deeply offended if they have to work "below their experience"; and this was in a ten man (rather 9 man 1 woman) engineering firm, which folded 2 years ago because no one actually did any work. The employees were too busy doing outside off the books jobs or just @#$%& about the indignity of actually having to work.
Phew, got that off my chest, thanks for listening.
