I would have to put chasing the 844 and 3985 across Nevada from Winnemucca to Gerlach, then through the Black Rock Desert, over Sand Pass as one of the best. Totally desolate country, no one else around (who else would be so crazy!). It was when they were headed to Sacramento - 1991? The DD40X was following as a second section with their historic steamer strapped down to a flatcar. Snow flurries, followed by clear skies, then more snow. What crazy weather. All this in a 1975 Dodge Dart!
