This brings up an intresting question I have. What percentage of conductiors are qualified locomotive engineers ? There is a perception at least on freight roads that the role of conductor/ engineer is interchangable. In the new scheme of two man crews don't all the engineers now start as conductors? Years ago I worked for SP with five man crews . The role of conductor and engineer where completly opposite, and proud of it. You quickly learned who the boss was. If a conductor moves "up" to engineer doesn't that diminish the authority of the conductor position ?
