Klamath & Hoppow Valley Railroad August 1972

August 1972, the election season was underway with Nixon running against George McGovern and a minor break-in at the Watergate in Washington had already taken place. Meanwhile, in the Northern California town of Klamath, lumber company owner Gus Peterson had built and was operating the Klamath & Hoppow Valley. It was a short and isolated piece of railroad using a 2-8-2T and a three truck Heisler, former Pickering Lumber #10. Both locomotives are now up on the Mt. Rainier Scenic although the #10 is not operable and is displayed at Elbe.

I did not see the 2-8-2T running but here are three of #10
