I was as staunch an NWP advocate as any, I even made daily trips to Schellville almost every day when they ran those work trains last year. They have new crossings, working bridges, new ties, new ballast, new equipment, etc, but still no trains a year later. Railroads like the McCloud or Lake County ran for ten years with little more than gauge rods for ties, and still ran bi-weekly service. FRA says NWP needs functioning signals at Brazos and Black Point bridges. A grand total of eight searchlights. NWP has refused to repair this signaling system. How hard can it be? Sounds like a BS excuse to me. The track is in excellent condition in MOST places now from Brazos to Petaluma. Hell they could run trains with six axle power at 40 MPH through Novato with that welded rail, new bridge deck and deep ballast. Considering all the shabby short line operations out there, as far as the physical plant of the NWP is concerned, trains could run tomorrow, a huge improvement from two years ago. Still no trains. They've had over a decade to deal with legal issues. I think its pretty safe to say nothing is ever going to change. Just sell it to the PLA or some @#$%& so at least they can run some photo freights.
