I photographed some of the last moves off of the ex-SP mainline at Tolenas X-overs onto the Travis AFB spur around 1997. When the AF was expanding and reinforcing the runways and taxiways at Travis, the SP was moving unit rock trains of Granite Rock hoppers (with pairs of SP GP9Es) in for this work. The trains would clear the mainline onto the spur then the power would run around the train on the run-around track. The AF personnel would come out with their Trackmobile and haul one or two loaded rock hoppers down to the end of the spur behind the David Grant Hospital to empty them and then shove them back to the run-around.
