At one point in the early 1950's there were three 5000's assigned to the Coast Division, and they usually served between Watsonville Jct. and SLO. One of them was featured in a fan trip. "Trains" magazine did a photo story concerning Cuesta and a photo of a 4-10-2 in helper service was included. Most helper assignments were with 2-10-2's, and 4-8-8-2's. 2-8-0's were sometime used as point helpers. The two 2-8-2's were usually assigned to either work trains, or the King City local.
