UP's interest and direct involvement in present-day railroad operations in the North Bay and the North Coast basically ends at a weedy location immediately compass west of Lombard, California, (near MP 63.4) where the California Northern operation gives way to the Northwestern Pacific. CFNR has an operating agreement with the UP for the railroad once owned and operated by SP. Beyond that, it's mostly government ownership all the way to Willits, Eureka, and Arcata.
