The lack of a roof on the Lafayette depot might have been due to a fire, and then the walls may have been left to collapse on their own (?). In much better shape was the depot at New Iberia, which was the office for the local shortline (Louisiana & Delta RR) as well as an unstaffed Amtrak station.
