Wow, I still remember all those day games that I went to in the early to mid 70's. The Giants would score 6 runs, but the pitching would give up 7. The attendance was so poor that the ushers would let you move around & sit anywhere after 4-5 innings went by. I remember watching Dave Kingman pitch to the Reds when the game was hopelessly out of reach. He actually struck out one batter, but plunked another and they pulled him. Lon Simmons joked over the radio "I think the Giants got them right where they want now". He most likely was
well oiled by that time.
I remember a nite game against the Mets and we were sitting right over by 3rd base. The bottom of the order was up for the Mets, so we weren't paying too much attention and were just BSing when there was a loud crack of the bat and we saw this ball go wizzing past out into the bleachers. Somebody asked "who was that". It was pitcher Tom Seaver, he yanked one out.
I remember watching Gary Maddox hit two inside-the -park homers in the same year. That guy could flat smoke running the bases.
I remember catcher Dave Rader making an unassited double play, catching a shallow popup out by the mound and continue running to catch the runner off second base.
Congrats Giants, a great memorable year. You earned it!
