The railroad film "Unstoppable" premiers in theaters on Friday. It stars Denzel Washington and Chris Pine as a train crew that chases and stops an unmanned runaway with tank cars of hazardous chemicals. I've seen the previews and it appears that Hollywood finally came up with a realistic train film (unlike the dud "Atomic Train".) Apparently this is a big budget production by Tony Scott, the British director who has a number of action films like "Top Gun" and "Beverly Hills Cop" to his credit.
The promotional material says the film is based on a true incident, but I'm not sure of where or when that incident may have taken place. Most of the action is set in Pennsylvania and Ohio. While I'm interested in seeing the movie, I hope it doesn't fuel a reaction by NIMBY's that railroads are unsafe and that you don't want them in your neighborhood.
